So what is TENS?
Labour Pain Relief – Perfect MamaTENS uses Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) to provide drug-free, natural pain relief during labour. Here at Down to Earth Birth we are thrilled to be the first in Edmonton to bring you the Perfect ManaTENS pregnancy and labour tens machine.

Maternity TENS machines have an excellent reputation as one of the safest, most effective forms of modern pain control available to women during childbirth. Midwives and doulas recommend Perfect MamaTENS because the machines are safe to use and they enable birthers to remain mobile and upright during labour; aiding the descent and dilatation to provide a more natural, drug-free form of pain relief. It offers a way for a birthers to labour longer in their own home.
Perfect MamaTENS uses TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) to relieve pain by blocking pain signals to the brain. TENS works by stimulating the body’s own natural defenses against pain. TENS is medically approved, widely recommended, and totally free of side-effects for both mother and baby. Perfect MamaTENS transmits gentle, electrical signals through the skin via four self-adhesive pads, positioned on the back. These impulses attack pain in two ways: by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body’s own pain relieving hormones, and by stimulating the “pain gate”, which stops pain signals from reaching the brain. Following extensive research, Perfect MamaTENS was specifically designed for use during labour.
Digital technology and pre-set programs eliminate the need to fiddle with dials, making it easy to choose the correct program to achieve the desired level of intensity. It is also beneficial after the birth, easing post-natal pains as the uterus contracts; and helping to manage the discomfort of an episiotomy or tear. It is even effective for post-cesarean pain.
General Pain Relief
Perfect MamaTENS can also be used for general pain relief, such as back or menstrual pain, so long as it is not used before the 37th week of pregnancy. It is an ideal pain-relief device to have around the home, suitable for all members of the family.
